Buxton and District Lions Club supports many activities and projects to raise funds to assist individuals and organisations within the
Buxton and District community. The Buxton Annual Firework Display and Hog Roast held on Saturday 4th November 2017 was a good example of the club's involvement in the community, it was a great
success and enjoyed by all who attended on the night.
Our thanks go to Mark, Melissa and the team from Tin Man Scrap who sponsored the fireworks and provided free of charge 400 commemorative
mugs plus luminous magic wands for all the children to wave during the evening's show. This year all children under 15 attended free of charge, so thanks to them and everyone else for
supporting our bonfire and firework show. Clubbercise, a local community support group, put on a fabulous dance and light show which entertained us all prior to the fireworks display, whilst
Bright Opportunities made us a "Guy" who sat on top of the bonfire - many thanks to both these groups for their help.
At Christmas we worked in partnership with the Pavilion Gardens and helped them with the "Christmas Lights Switch On" event on Friday
17th November. We helped Father Christmas during the evening and also helped him when he visited the Pavilion Garden's "Christmas Fair" on Saturday 9th and Sunday 10th December.
Additionally the club joined forces with 'The Nottingham' and run a very successful Reverse Santa programme at their offices in Spring Gardens. The Buxton Lions and "The Nottingham" would like
to thank everyone for the presents and gifts left in Santa's chest in the reception area, you are all very kind for supporting this event. We helped Rachel at Blythe House to run a childrens
Christmas party assisted by the team at Morrisons and of course Father Christmas. Lastly on Friday 22nd December we jointly held with Morrisons a collection for Lions Charities and Morrisons
own in house charity for children.
Buxton & District Lions have raised thousands of pounds for local charities as well as performing many hours of community service. Meetings are held twice a
month, details in the club progamme page shown above. The 2nd Thursday of each month is a business meeting where we update each other on what we have been doing and the 4th Friday is where we all sit
down with our partners to enjoy a pleasant meal at the Cavendish Golf Club. As a member, you pay a subscription of just £5 a month to cover the administration costs, so that everything raised
from our activities goes back into the local community. So why not contact us or come and help us with some of our future events, we always need help.
I've been married to Elaine for many years and our involvement with the Lions has given us many happy memories and helped us make good
friends from our work in the local community. So if you are interested just send me an email and I will be pleased to take you to one of our meetings or invite you to get involved with one of
our events, so that you can see and experience what the Lions do in Buxton.
I am looking forward to hearing from you and meeting you soon.
