Images of Lockdown
The last year has been a really difficult time for young people. Buxton Lions are holding a free entry Art Competition on the theme of “Images of Lockdown” for all children and young people of school age (up to 16) attending participating Buxton schools and/or living in Buxton. They believe that this theme could enable youngsters to express their reactions to, and explore their keenest impressions of, a unique period in their lives.
Local Primary teachers and Heads of Art at Buxton’s secondary schools have been encouragingly positive about the project and are helping to co-ordinate it. The competition will launch after Easter and closing date for entries will be May 14th. Entries will be judged in Key Stages 1-4. There are cash prizes for the winning entries in each Key Stage and these paintings will also be professionally framed.
The Lions are being supported with help in promoting the competition by Morrisons, Tarmac plc and the Green Man Gallery who are also providing professional artists to judge the entries. In due course, the aim is to put on a public display of the work submitted, which could provide a fascinating archive of these times. The Lions are also hoping to enter a selection of the entries in the Buxton Fringe.
